Route 166 To Be Closed In Toms River For Water Main Work

The state Department of Transportation said the Main Street closure will be overnight to accommodate the water main work.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Route 166 will be closed and detoured Thursday evening for installation of a water main, the state Department of Transportation said.

The closure begins at 9 p.m. and is expected to last until 5 a.m., officials said. It will be from Highland Parkway to East Water Street. Detours will be in place, officials said.

The closure is for a new water system on the 600 block of Main Street, also known as Route 166, officials said.

Local access will be maintained for residents and businesses. The following detours will be in place:

Route 166/Main Street northbound detour:

  • Motorists on Route 166/Main Street northbound will be directed to turn right onto East Water Street
  • Turn left onto Hooper Avenue
  • Turn left onto Route 37 westbound
  • Turn right to continue on Route 166/Main Street northbound, which becomes Lakewood Road

Route 166/Main Street southbound detour:

  • Motorists on Route 166/Main Street southbound will be directed to turn right onto Highland Parkway
  • Turn left onto West Water Street/CR 527 back to Route 166/Main Street
