RSVP "Volunteer of the Year" Named

Congratulations to Carol Salzberg and Caregiver Volunteers of Central Jersey

Congratulations to Carol Salzberg, a volunteer for Caregiver Volunteers of Central Jersey (CVCJ). Salzberg was honored for her service and named 2018 “Volunteer of the Year” at the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Ocean County (RSVP) annual recognition luncheon held on May 16th.

As a volunteer for Caregiver Volunteers of Central Jersey, Carol Salzberg along with her husband Bernie were one of the first volunteers in 2002 to provide weekly, no cost relief to at-home Alzheimer’s disease caregivers through their Alzheimer’s Respite Care Program. Sixteen years later, she is still volunteering to ease the burden of dementia caregivers. As a Coordinator for Congregation B'nai Israel in Toms River, Salzberg also volunteers to complete in-home assessments of Ocean County residents over 60 years old who need assistance to remain in their own homes.

According to Lynette Whiteman, Executive Director of CVCJ “Carol exemplifies all that is right in the world. All of us at CVCJ are so proud to know her. She gives to others in need with an open heart and makes their life better. In these troubling times, it’s comforting to know there are people like Carol always willing to lend a helping hand to a stranger who then becomes like a family member.”

CVCJ is a nonprofit agency dedicated to providing assistance to help caregivers and those over 60 years old remain independent in their own homes and ending loneliness. In addition to Alzheimer’s respite care, their free services include driving to medical appointments, grocery shopping along with friendly visits and phone calls. Their Caregiver Canines® program offers in-home visits with pet therapy dogs for those who love dogs but are unable to care for one any longer. All volunteers complete training and undergo background checks.

RSVP helps individuals 55 years of age and older find meaningful volunteer assignments with non- profit and public service organizations in an effort to meet critical needs of the community.
