1 Teen Dies, 1 Rescued From Sand Collapse On Toms River Beach: Police
Authorities said the teens, a brother and sister, were with family visiting from out of state.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — An 18-year-old from Maine has died after he was trapped by sand that collapsed while he and his 17-year-old sister were digging on the beach, Toms River police said Tuesday evening.
Levy Caverley, 18, died in the collapse, said Jillian Messina, media relations specialist for the Toms River Police Department.
His sister, whose name was not released, was rescued and treated at the scene, Messina said.

The collapse was reported shortly after 4 p.m., Messina said. The teens and family members were visiting from out-of-town and had spent the afternoon on the beach, she said.
Police described the hole they had dug as large but did not say how deep or wide it was.

News 12 New Jersey reported about 7:30 p.m. that Caverley's body had been recovered.
Silverton EMS, Toms River EMS, Toms River Fire companies, the Toms River Fire Technical Rescue Team, Lavallette Fire Company, Lavallette Police and Public Works, Toms River Police Detective Bureau, Seaside Heights police, the Ocean County Sheriff's Crime Scene Investigative Unit and the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office responded.
