Seaside Heights Man Charged In Seaside Park Stabbing

SEASIDE PARK, NJ — A Seaside Heights man has been charged with attempted murder in a stabbing that happened early Thursday in Seaside Park, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office announced Friday.

Porfirio B. Serrano-Cruz, 38, of Seaside Heights, was charged with attempted murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, burglary and possession of clonazepam without a valid prescription, Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.

Seaside Park police responded to a 911 call about 5:15 a.m. Thursday from a man who said someone had broken into his home on O Street and tried to kill him, Billhimer said.

The 39-year-old man had multiple stab wounds to the arms, chest, abdomen and groin and was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. He is listed in critical but stable condition, Billhimer said.

Detectives determined Serrano-Cruz was the person who had stabbed the victim, but Billhimer did not give any information on how they came to that determination or what the motivation may have been.

Serrano-Cruz was found in Seaside Heights and arrested by Seaside Heights police. He is being held at the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing, Billhimer said.

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, High Tech Crime Unit, Narcotics Strike Force, and Special Victims Unit, Seaside Park Police Department, Seaside Heights Police Department and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit investigated.
