See Toms River Church's Live Nativity Scene
St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church has a drive-through nativity scene depicting events before and after the birth of Jesus.
TOMS RIVER, NJ — For some, the scene of the nativity is an important part of the celebration of Christmas. Families include nativity scenes in their homes or as elements of their holiday decor.
At St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, however, the scene of the birth of Jesus Christ comes to life — literally.
But it's not merely the scene of Mary and Joseph and the wise men surrounding the infant Jesus in the manger. The church, at 2200 Church Road in Toms River, has an elaborate six-part set-up depicting the milestones before, during and just after the birth of Jesus.

The live nativity is performed by members of the church's Greek Orthodox Youth of America group, who act the parts of Mary, Joseph, the wise men, the shepherds, the Archangel Gabriel and many others "who are so beautifully described in the Gospel as it vividly explains all that occurred over 2000 years ago in Bethlehem," the church's website says. The scenes also include live animals, which the church expects will be one of the highlights for kids.
"All of this from the comfort and warmth of your car as you drive through our grounds in awe of this Christmas spectacle before you! Narrations of each scene will be broadcast over your car radio as you arrive at each scene's location," the church's announcement says.
