Should School Board Members Be Subjected to Criminal Background Checks?

As Christie proposes legislation, what do you think?

Specifically the new law would disqualify anyone convicted of crimes ranging from reckless endangerment and drug possession to burglary and murder from serving on a board of education.

What do you think? Is the measure a necessary safeguard to protect children or out of bounds?
