Sock Money Allegedly Ties Toms River Man To Bank Robbery
Police say he tried to run from the scene but was caught by a patrol officer on a Segway-like upright vehicle called a personal transporter.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — A Toms River man is accused of robbing a Bloomfield bank after a police officer on a personal transporter apprehended him and found the alleged robbery proceeds in his sock, Bloomfield police said Wednesday.
Michael Restaino, 58, of Toms River, is accused of walking into the PNC Bank at 2 Broad St. in Bloomfield at 11:25 a.m. Tuesday and demanding money from a teller.
The bank teller surrendered about $1,450 to the unarmed Restaino, who immediately ran out of the bank, police said. Bloomfield Police Officer Bruce Calkin, patrolling the area on a Sentinel Police Mobility Vehicle, spotted Restaino and apprehended him on State Street, a block and a half away, authorities said.

The cash allegedly stolen during the robbery was then found in Restaino's sock, police said. Restaino is being held at Essex County Correctional Facility awaiting a detention hearing, police said.
The Police Mobility Vehicle is similar to a Segway but instead of two wheels it has three.
