South Toms River Cooling Center Open Wednesday
With the heat index again expected to be well above 100 degrees, the town is opening a spot for those who need relief.
SOUTH TOMS RIVER, NJ — With the temperature expected to reach the 90s and humidity intensifying the effects, South Toms River officials have opened a cooling station to provide relief for those who need it.
The cooling station is open until 8 p.m. Wednesppday at the recreation building, 1 Drake Lane.
The heat index is expected to be around 100 , because of the heat.

A code orange air quality alert means that air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups. Sensitive groups include children, people suffering from asthma, heart disease or other lung diseases, and the elderly, the weather service said. The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding strenuous activity or exercise outdoors.
Check on friends, neighbors, seniors, and other vulnerable populations who may not have air conditioning and who spend much of their time alone.
