SOUTH TOMS RIVER, NJ — As extreme temperatures turn Ocean County into a blast furnace, South Toms River officials are offering some relief to those who may be without air conditioning in these sweltering conditions.

"Please contact the police department 24/7 at 732-349-2010 should you or someone you know need access to the facility," the notice said.

As a reminder to pet owners: Keep your animals inside in the air conditioning and provide them plenty of fresh water. Do not walk your dogs on the blacktop as it can burn the pads on their paws. And do not leave your pets in a vehicle for even a minute. Temperatures inside a vehicle can reach dangerous levels very quickly in extreme heat.
