'Strong' Winter Storm Possible For N.J. Next Week

The National Weather Service has issued an alert for a 'strong' winter storm that could hit N.J. next week. Some snow could come Friday.

A ‘strong’ winter storm could possibly hit New Jersey by early next week, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook, saying there is the “potential for a strong coastal storm” to hit the region on Tuesday and Wednesday, though the track of the storm was uncertain as of Friday.

The alert was for North Jersey, though the National Weather Service has indicated that all areas of New Jersey will either have snow, or a mixture of snow and sleet if the storm stays on course:

The National Weather Service says some snow could hit the area Friday, but will likely change to rain.

Next week’s storm from the Gulf of Mexico is expected to turn northward along the Atlantic Seaboard next week, potentially resulting in a snowstorm for parts of our region, according to AccuWeather.

Travel delays and disruptions to daily activities are likely, regardless of whether the storm yields snow, rain or both, according to AccuWeather.

A storm path just inland of the coast would result in a warmer scenario in the swath from the Interstate 95 corridor to the beaches with mostly rain, according to AccuWeather.

Here is the forecast:

Friday night: A slight chance of rain, snow, and sleet between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m., then a slight chance of rain after 11 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 33. South wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 56. Southwest wind 6 to 10 mph.

Saturday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 38. Southwest wind 6 to 8 mph.

Sunday: A slight chance of rain after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 52. West wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Sunday night: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 35. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Monday: Partly sunny, with a high near 47.

Monday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29.TuesdayA chance of rain after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 42. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.

Thursday: A chance of rain and snow. Partly sunny, with a high near 41. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
