Tie Down Your Toms River Halloween Parade Chairs, Officials Warn

If you're trying to reserve a spot for the parade Tuesday, chairs must be secured or they will be removed, officials said.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — It's T-minus 26 hours until the 79th annual Toms River Halloween Parade steps off from the Toms River Shopping Center at Route 37 and Route 166, and if you're among those who are trying to reserve your seat along the parade route, officials have a reminder for you: Secure your chairs.

A number of chairs showed up along the parade route Monday, and Carl Weingroff, the parade adviser for Toms River Fire Company 1, the event host, reminds spectators that chairs placed along the route in advance of the parade must be tied down.

Chairs that are not secured will be removed by the Toms River Police Department because they pose a risk of blowing into the road, particularly with the strong winds the area has been experiencing due to the weekend storm.

Blankets that are being placed will be removed for the same reason, Weingroff said. Chairs are not supposed to be placed along the route — the parade runs down Main Street to Washington Street, and then east on Washington to Hooper Avenue — before Tuesday morning.
