Toms River ART HEALS Needs Community Volunteers!

Girl Scout Mural project needs volunteers to help make glass mosaic leaves for her community mural this Saturday at St. Luke's Church 11-3pm

Hope Sheds Light, Girl Scout Cadette, Sophie Regenye and Sophie's Community Team Expert Muralist Yvonne Yaar are looking for artists and anyone connected to the mental health and addictions treatment and recovery field to come volunteer this coming Saturday, 12/29/18 between 11am and 3pm.

St. Luke's R.C. Church on Old Freehold Rd. is hosting the Girl Scout Cadette Silver Award Project by one of their teen parishoners, Sophie Regenye, whose project is sponsored by Hope Sheds Light of Toms River. Sophie needs adult and teen volunteers to help her make about 100 glass mosaic leaves for her 6 foot x 13 foot glass mosaic mural. This mural project is meant to bring the community together as a reminder to families struggling with mental health and addiction that RECOVERY IS POSSIBLE and that the many forms of art such as painting, drawing, singing, dancing, acting, music, pottery, photography and many more can be very healing when integrated into traditional therapy/treatment programs. In the Journal of Addictions Nursing, "The Use of Art and Music Therapy in Substance Abuse Treatment Programs" the authors refer to them as complementary and alternative medical (CAM) practices. They stated that various forms of art therapy used have had a great impact mostly with women and children.
Jill Hawthorne from Toms River Regional High School North Art Department has been assisting with the mural's creation, along with additional art department faculty members and art students as well.

See pictures included of previous community glass mosaic leaf sessions at the Downtown Toms River Artists Community Gallery.
