Toms River Council Honors 9 Retiring Police Officers
Nine officers were honored on their retirement, nine officers were promoted and three new officers took their oaths at the council meeting.
TOMS RIVER, NJ — The Toms River Township Council honored nine retiring police officers and detectives at Wednesday's council meeting, one of the largest groups of retirees in the department's history, Police Chief Mitch Little said.
Lt. Robert W. Rankin, Sgt. Frank J. Lauria Jr., Cpl. Paul C. Burkhardt, Cpl. Ryan R. Rush and Cpl. Kevin E. Tye, along with Detectives Mark A. Bajada, Jonathan M. Turner, John A. Bajcic and Louis A. Santora retired. Each of the officers had at least 25 years of service, with most of that time while working for Toms River, Little said.
The retirements allowed for nine officers to be promoted: Lt. Anthony Scali, Sgt. Brian Doyle, Sgt. Travis Seaman, and Detectives Sam Sutter, Ryan Parente, Lou Taranto, Mike Macdonald, Jason Putkowski, and Brent Mundy. All of those promoted were sworn in to their new positions by Mayor Maurice Hill.

Little also introduced three new officers who were hired and sworn in by Hill: Patrolman Ryan Nani, Patrolman William Maloney and Patrolman Ethan Lucas.
