Toms River Diner Closes Down
The 24/7 eatery shuts down abruptly after nearly 45 years in business.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Fans of the Toms River Diner are posting tributes on social media to the diner, which closed its doors for good Sunday at 3 p.m. after nearly 45 years in business.
Word of the closing, first reported by Toms River Online, spread across Facebook on Saturday and a number of people remarked about their memories of the diner, which had been a 24/7 operation over its more than 37 years of operation.
The diner, on the spit of land where Washington Street merges with Route 37 East, opened in 1972, according to the diner's website. It has been owned by the Vasilakis family from the beginning; Mike Vasilakis Sr. and his wife, Noreen, own the diner along with sons Mike and George, the website notes.

WOBM.com, which also reported the impending closure, noted the place was known for its disco fries.
The diner had been one of the few restaurants open past 2 a.m. in the area for those who wanted more than a Wawa hoagie late at night.
