Toms River Pair Charged In More Than 40 Car Burglaries
Police say unlocked cars, mainly in eastern part of town, were targeted in the last month
A man and a woman have been arrested in connection more than 40 car burglaries in the eastern part of the township in the last month, police said.
Cody Diaz, 20, of Windsor Avenue, and Marissa Huschak, 18, of Harrison Road, both of Toms River, were arrested Thursday by Detectives Louis Santora and Steven Bucci, said Ralph Stocco, Toms River police spokesman.
The pair were identified after Huschak tried to use a gift card that was stolen in one of the burlargies at a local business, Stocco said.

When the gift card was reported stolen, Stocco said, Bucci notified the business of the theft and asked that he be contacted if anyone attempted to use the card. Huschak presented the card, which she had received from Diaz, her boyfriend, and Stocco said the alert store clerk notified police.
Diaz also had been seen on surveillance footage committing the crimes, the bulk of which occurred in the Fischer Boulevard area, Stocco said.

Huschak was charged with receiving stolen property and released pending a court date, Stocco said.
Diaz was charged with multiple burglaries and thefts and bail was set at $25,000, Stocco said.
The detectives are continuing to piece together the chain of events and any connection to the remaining unsolved incidents, he said.
