Toms River Police Seeking Cadet Program Applicants

Toms River police are offering a new National Public Safety Cadet program, which introduces those 14 to 20 to a law enforcement career.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — If you are a student considering a career in law enforcement, the Toms River Police Department is accepting applications for its new National Public Safety Cadet program.

Participating cadets become part of the Toms River Police Public Safety Cadet Unit 137.

The cadet program is a youth mentoring organization geared to providing knowledge, skills and practical experiences to those interested in a career in public service, the police department said.

The program is open to students ages 14 to 20. Cadets participate in biweekly law enforcement training, and volunteer at various township events. They are eligible to participate in "ride-a-longs" with sworn law enforcement officers.

  • CPR/ First Aid
  • Firearms safety
  • Arrest Search and Seizure
  • Domestic Violence Response
  • Burglary in Progress
  • Motor Vehicle Stops
  • Physical Fitness

Cadets also are eligible to participate in both state and national conferences, competing against other cadets in various law enforcement scenarios.
