Toms River Ready To Celebrate 250th Anniversary Rain Or Shine

The ceremony marking the historic date when the Town of Dover became its own entity will take place even if Mother Nature doesn't cooperate.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Rain in the forecast for Saturday is not going to stop the Toms River 250th anniversary celebration.

Township officials announced Friday that the ceremony to officially rededicate Huddy Park and commemorate the anniversary of the chartering of the Town of Dover, the original name of Toms River, will be held regardless of the weather.

Heavy rain is in the forecast for Saturday morning and is expected to let up in the early afternoon, according to the National Weather Service's Mount Holly office. If the rain does come as predicted, the ceremony will be moved inside to the Hirschblond Meeting Room in Town Hall, officials said.

The ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m., and if it will be moved, that decision will be made Saturday morning, officials said.

"Please note, every effort will be made to keep the ceremony outdoors," officials said.

The ceremony will be followed by the food truck festival benefiting the Toms River PBA and the Toms River fire companies. That is scheduled to start at noon on Washington Street and will occur as scheduled.
