Toms River School Board Holding Online Meeting Due To Coronavirus

Efforts to promote social distancing to slow the spread of the new coronavirus are pushing the district livestream the meeting.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — The Toms River Regional Board of Education will be holding Wednesday's meeting online because of the outbreak of the new coronavirus, the board announced Tuesday.

"As a consequence of the state of emergency and health officials' recommendations regarding public gatherings, the Toms River Regional Board of Education is following the practice of other government bodies and will live stream its meetings over the web beginning Wednesday, March 18," the notice from the school board said.

"Information will be posted on our district web page prior to the meeting, providing the public with a link to access the live stream and methods for submitting questions and comments," the notice said.

On Monday, Gov. Phil Murphy set limits of no more than 50 people on public gatherings across the state in efforts to slow the spread of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19. As of Tuesday afternoon, there were 267 positive tests for COVID-19 in New Jersey, and three people have died from it, according to the state health department.

There have been six positives in Ocean County, including two people from Toms River, according to the Ocean County Health Department.

The public portion of the meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
