Toms River Schools Cancel All Afternoon, Evening Events Wednesday

TOMS RIVER, NJ — All sporting events and other activities scheduled for the Toms River Regional School District on Wednesday evening have been cancelel or postponed, district officials announced.

A winter storm that is predicted to drop a foot of snow in some parts of New Jersey was intensifying and was expected to cause problems during the afternoon and evening in Ocean County, prompting many districts to announce early dismissals.

The Toms River schools were closed to students on Wednesday while teachers and staff members spent a day at work in professional development workshops.

Some activities, including state playoff basketball games, had remained scheduled until the Wednesday morning announcement.

All rentals of the district's school buildings for Wednesday afternoon and evening are canceled as well, officials said.
