Toms River Sept 11 Ceremony Set For Tuesday
The ceremony will be held downtown and is hosted by the town's fire companies.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Toms River's fire companies will gather at the Firefighter Memorial in downtown Toms River on Tuesday as the town marks the 17th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
The ceremony is hosted by Toms River Fire Companies 1 and 2 and will begin at 9:30 a.m.The statue is at the corner of Washington Street and Robbins Street in downtown Toms River. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held inside Toms River Town Hall.
In addition to the Sept. 11 ceremony, Toms River's fire companies will have a ceremony on Sept. 29 with a flag that flew over the rubble of the World Trade Center in the days after the attacks. The flag, which has since flown at various U.S. military sites, will be flown for 9 minutes, 11 seconds at each of the six fire companies and at the Toms River Fire Academy, where a final ceremony will be held at 4 p.m.

Among the nearly 3,000 people who died in the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon were more than 400 emergency personnel; 343 firefighters, 60 police officers and eight paramedics died when the Twin Towers collapsed that morning.
Also among those killed at the World Trade Center were 21 people from Ocean County, including two from Toms River and one person from Beachwood.
