A 3-year-old from Toms River is being treated at a trauma center after police and a report say the child was attacked by the family’s dog Monday night.

Toms River police spokesman Ralph Stocco said the child, who lives in the Normandy Beach section of the township, was flown by Southstar to Cooper University Medical Center in Camden with stable vitals after he was bitten by the dog. He did not have details on the extent of the injuries late Monday night.

NBC10 in Philadelphia reported that police said the 3-year-old was attacked by the family’s pet, reportedly a mastiff-type of dog, at their home on 4th Avenue about 8:15 p.m.
