Toms River Town Council Honors CVCJ

25 Year Anniversary of CVCJ Honored at May 22, 2018 TR Town Council Meeting

In honor and appreciation of it's 25 Year Anniversary of assisting older residents and caregivers, Caregiver Volunteers of Central Jersey (CVCJ) was presented with a proclamation at a TR Town Council Meeting. The presentation was made by Councilwoman Laurie Huryk who learned about this nonprofit agency by attending their recent Volunteer Appreciation Dinner. Accepting the proclamation was Executive Director Lynette Whiteman and CVCJ co-founder Barbara Devlin along with her Caregiver Canines therapy dog Christie. Devlin, along with Christie volunteer to make weekly home visits to older residents who can no longer care for their own dog and miss that companionship and joy. One of the people she visits is Stella, who is 102 years old and credits her good health to looking forward to her weekly visits with Barbara and Christie.

In her remarks, Lynette Whiteman, Executive Director thanked Councilwoman Huryk for her support of CVCJ and for taking the time to learn more about the support they provide. She also thanked Mayor Kelaher and the Council for playing an integral role in the agencies success for the past 25 years.

Whiteman also urged the people in attendance to let their elderly neighbors who might need help to remain independent and who might be feeling lonely to call CVCJ. Through a volunteer network of more than 1000 individuals, they provide medical transportation, grocery shopping, respite to dementia caregivers, pet therapy home visits, friendly visits and friendly phones - all at no charge.
