UPDATE: Route 37 Bridge Into Seaside Heights Reopened

The Mathis Bridge has been lowered, and emergency repairs are under way, officials say.

UPDATE, 5:45 p.m.: The Mathis Bridge on Route 37 into Seaside Heights has been lowered and now is open to motor vehicles again, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office said.

The website 511nj.org reports that emergency repairs to the bridge are being made and motorists should use caution in the area.

Motorists are being told to avoid the Mathis Bridge that connects mainland Toms River to Seaside Heights and the southern part of the Barnegat Peninsula as of 4:45 p.m.

Mechanical problems are affecting the bridge, according to a Nixle alert from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office.
