Two Crashes, Two DUI Charges In 10 Hours For Toms River Man
The 19-year-old is accused of being under the influence of drugs, police said; his mother was charged with allowing him to drive impaired.
A Toms River man who was charged with driving under the influence after a crash that caused a partial closure of Route 9 Tuesday night has been charged with DUI in a second, hit-and-run, crash less than 10 hours later, Toms River police said Thursday.
Toms River police spokesman Ralph Stocco said Nicholas Corsair, 19, of Raymond Avenue, is facing several charges after the second crash, which happened Wednesday morning at the intersection of Route 9 and Whitty Road.
Stocco said police were called to a hit-and-run crash about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.

“This area was experiencing very heavy traffic volume and a road detour as a result of a crash that damaged a utility pole at 9:50 p.m. the previous night,” he said, and witnesses told police that a Chevy pickup going west rear-ended a Honda Civic driven by a 54-year-old Forked River man. The driver of the pickup then fled in the truck, Stocco said.
Traffic Officer Robert Westfall determined that the suspect was Corsair, who had been driving the Infiniti that crashed the previous evening and damaged the pole, causing major traffic congestion at the intersection as JCP&L crews repaired the damage, Stocco said.

In that incident, Corsair was arrested and charged with DWI as a result of suspected illicit drug use, Stocco said, and was released about 3 a.m.
Corsair was then located at his home about 8 a.m. and arrested in the hit-and-run crash, Stocco said. He was charged with 2C: 35-10b, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance as well as numerous other traffic violations, Stocco said.
It was determined that Corsair’s mother, Jacquelin Latronico, 51 of Raymond Avenue, allowed her son to operate a motor vehicle while under the influence of suspected narcotics in the 7:30 a.m. incident, he said. She was arrested at her home and charged with 39:4-50a, allowing a person to operate a vehicle while impaired, he said.
Both mother and son were released pending a later court date, Stocco said.
