Two People Charged After Late Night Car Jacking In Toms River

Two people have been charged following a car jacking that took place late Tuesday in Toms River.

TOMS RIVER, NJ – Two people have been charged following a car jacking that took place late Tuesday in Toms River.

On Tuesday just before 9 p.m., police responded to Weston Drive for a reported robbery. When officers arrived, the victim told police he was selling a 2003 Honda Civic and had just met with two people who were interested in buying the car.

After both suspects had driven the car during a test drive, they stopped at the intersection of Weston Drive and Ashford Road. The male suspect, who was sitting in the back passenger seat next behind the victim, grabbed him and placed a knife to a neck, saying "we're taking this," police said.

The victim was able to escape from the man's grasp and get out of the car. He ran to the nearest house as the suspects drove off.

Less than two hours later, the car was located by Lakewood Police officers.

Saheru El, 23 of Asbury Park, and Tonia Underwood, 18 of Lakewood, were placed under arrest. El was charged with car jacking and Underwood was charged with conspiracy to commit car jacking.

The incident remains under investigation.
