Uber Driver From Seaside Park Remembered As Loving, Enthusiastic And Fun

George Gdovin was found dead in a motel room in Galloway on Sunday, authorities said. A report said he was an aspiring actor.

SEASIDE PARK, NJ — As the investigation continues into the death of an Uber driver from Seaside Park whose body was found in a motel in Galloway Township, efforts are underway to raise money for the costs of paying final respects to a man who's described as loving, funny and a tremendous loss.

George Gdovin, 32, was found dead Sunday, Galloway Township police said late Monday afternoon. He had been last seen about 4 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Lake and Osborne roads in Bay Head after dropping off a customer, Seaside Park police said.

A GoFundme page set up to raise money for Gdovin's funeral expenses describes him as "an incredible and loving person taken from us way too soon."

"His generous nature and fun-loving personality was infectious to all who met and knew him," Samantha Matthies, Gdovin's fiancee, wrote on the page. "The first word that comes to mind when meeting George for the first time would be 'Enthusiastic' and for those who knew him, they would describe him as Genuine, Sincere, Honest, and Loving."

"George was always there for his family and his friends no matter what, and would do anything for anyone he knew (or didn't know for that matter). He complimented total strangers on their abilities to do things but was humble when it came to his own accomplishments. He inspired everyone around him with his passion for life," she wrote.

Gdovin "was a wonderful son to George and Dorothy, brother to James and Tyler, nephew to Janet and Jimmy and fiance to Samantha. It is with great sadness that we see this special, wonderful and magnificent man leave this world. His life was filled with love, laughs and fun, which he shared with all of us. His enthusiasm and optimisim fueling his aspirations and consuming any negitivity around him and those around him," she wrote.

Gdovin's father, George Sr., told the Asbury Park Press that Point Pleasant borough police told him that they found his son in his gray 2016 Hyundai Elantra around 4 a.m. Friday on Lake and Osborne avenues in Bay Head. An officer read messages on Gdovin's phone, and authorities told the father that his son was not "in a good state of mind" when they found him early Friday morning. However, the father said police told him they let his son leave the area alone.

He was found at the Rodeway Inn on the White Horse Pike in Galloway about 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Galloway Township police said in the statement. Police were called for a report of an unconscious male, and officers who answered the call confirmed the man, later identified as Gdovin, had died, the statement said.

Authorities have not released details on the cause of death and have asked anyone with information to contact Galloway Township Police detectives at 609-652-3705, ext. 344, or the Atlantic County Crime Stoppers at 609-652-1234 or 1-800-658-TIPS.

The Press of Atlantic City reported the front desk manager told them Gdovin had checked in Saturday about 7:30 a.m. and paid for one night. On Sunday, Gdovin missed his checkout time, and when the manager went to check on him he found the room's door blocked by furniture and found Gdovin unresponsive, according to the report.

Gdovin was a Howell High School graduate, according to APP.com. He also was an aspiring actor, according to that report.
