What's in Your Toolkit? Cancer Thriving and Surviving Introductory Session

Free session for cancer survivors and their friends and family

The Ocean Monmouth Health Alliance & the Cancer Support Community at Momouth Medical Center, Southern Campus are partnering to offer the free workshop series Cancer: Thriving and Surviving for cancer patients and survivors.

Cancer: Thriving and Surviving Workshop Series is a free six-week session workshop designed to help individuals and families facing the challenges of cancer. Cancer can strike fear, confusion, and helplessness in individuals diagnosed with the disease, as well as their caregivers. Cancer patients and survivors must deal not only with their disease, but also with the impact on their lives and emotions. A self-management approach to cancer education gives cancer patients and survivors the knowledge, tools and confidence to manage day-by-day.

Decide to take a forward step and attend this series to becoming a positive self-manager of your health. First join us at one of the introductory sessions that will be held on August 14 and August 21 from 1 to 2 p.m. and then register for the workshop held on Mondays, September 18 through October 23, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Cancer Support Community located at 199 Prospect Street, Lakewood, NJ. The Cancer: Thriving and Surviving Workshop Series was developed and tested by Stanford University. Workshop topics include healthy eating, problem solving, physical activity, fatigue, action planning, dealing with difficult emotions, decision making, and working with health care professionals. Participants are welcome to bring a family member or caregiver. Pre-registration is required but there is NO cost to attend classes. Participants are encouraged to attend all six sessions. Each participant will receive a companion book, a Mind and Body CD, and the opportunity to learn about local resources.
