Marble unlike porcelain and ceramic tile is a natural material. Marble scratches and loses its shine from foot traffic and from surfaces that scratch it. Pebbles, sand, toys and tools can easily scratch marble. Over time a series of numerous minor scratches will remove the shine of marble. Using the wrong cleaning products can also ruin marble. Never use acid or vinegar to clean marble. Only use a cleaning product that says safe for marble and natural stone. Restoring a shine to marble is time consuming and requires skilled labor. Prevention is the key. Remove your shoes or put down a runner or rug on your marble floor. Use the right cleaning products with a soft mop like cotton or microfiber.
