Caregiver Volunteers of Central Jersey highlighted in article about connecting isolated Seniors using the internet and volunteer mentors.

Loneliness and social isolation is being recognized as a true health issue negatively impacting the lives of Seniors. The staff and volunteers at Caregiver Volunteers of Central Jersey, an Ocean/Monmouth nonprofit agency strive to reduce this sad time that many Seniors face. Through their one-on-one medical transportation, grocery shopping, friendly visiting, respite to caregivers and in-home therapy dog visits, they serve as a safety net and way for Seniors to connect and find joy. Their mission and achievements were highlighted in an article published on the web site caring.com. Through a grant awarded by the National Council on Aging and Verizon Foundation, Caregiver Volunteers of Central Jersey, matched 25 homebound, isolated elderly with volunteer mentors to teach them how to navigate the internet on a free tablet. The results showed that technology can be used to enhance the lives of Seniors when they are given access and a chance to learn.
