Ditching Your Time Share

A simple way to get out from owning your time share.

Even though I thought it was a wonderful thing to purchase a time share on eBay about 5 years ago for the ridiculous price of $300, the truth of the matter is, once you own it,  you can't get rid of it -- you practically have to give it away.

I've been to seminars upon seminars saying they will buy your time share and it winds up, they will let you pay them $4,000-$5,000 for closing costs and they will take it off of your hands for free. What a deal. Then there were the marketers who said they had someone interested, but when you pushed and asked for a name, etc., they said they couldn't give out that information for confidentiality reasons. Right there, you know they have no one interested. They also say that one never knows, perhaps they won't qualify, but give them 45, 60, 90 days+ and they will sell it for you. I've been there and done that and it doesn't work.

I even had my money refunded from a group who said they were realtors, but upon reading the contract, found out that they were a marketing company. So I spoke with the Executive Vice President and told him that I had worked for a lawyer for 20 years -- and that's all it took, I received a refund check within a week.

So, the way to get out of owning this bad investment is to deed back your property to the owners.  You don't get anything for it, but you don't have the ridiculous maintenance fees associated with your time share, which go up year after year.  As I had learned, if you really like your time share property as a vacation spot, you can rent it from Orbitz, Cheaptickets.com, etc., for a fraction of what your maintenance fee would be!  Odd, huh? You would think that owners got the better deal, but that is not the case.

Anyway, call the Litigation Department before your maintenance fee is due and the swap usually costs about $85.

Real estate websites don't work. I saw my time share property listed for sale from $0 - $8500 with no takers. Mine would have cost $19,500 if I had purchased it the normal way. What kind of investment is it that keeps losing value each year?  According to my accountant, "A bad one!"

The marketers don't have prospects for you, they just want your money. Be happy with the time you had to use and enjoy it but if you've had enough of the rising maintenance fees, just deed it back and cut your losses while you can.

I guess the woman who sold the time share to me on Ebay knew what she was doing. At least she got $300 for her bad investment.
