Fat Loss: Weighing Yourself Daily Will Make You Crazy

I know that one of the most depressing feelings is birthed from the weight gained back after successfully completing a diet plan.

Speaking from first- and second-hand experience, I know that one of the most depressing feelings is birthed from the weight gained back after successfully completing a diet plan. What’s worse than watching the needle on the scale shift to the right after weeks of dedication to fitness and diet?

Take solace in this: The human body’s natural response to dieting is to regain a portion of the weight you lost. Turning this surprise into an expectation will do wonders for your mental health. Many people get frustrated at this post-diet weight gain and assume they just aren’t destined for a lean body, so they wind up giving up on their goals altogether. Don’t be one of those people. By altering your expectations to a more reasonable level, you can avoid this reacquisition of weight and blast through your plateau.

Keep in mind that the more weight you lose in a short period of time, the more you will gain back once you deviate from your diet plan. So instead of trying to lose 10 pounds in a week, spread your goal out over a month instead. Your body will lose weight slower and more methodically, giving it adequate time to adjust to your new weight.

Don’t deprive yourself of a reward when dieting. Sometimes a somewhat gluttonous meal can be a good thing. If you’ve stuck to your diet, even a large meal will leave you lighter than you were a week before. If you still feel guilty over rewarding yourself mid-diet, push a little harder in the gym that day to ensure you’re burning the extra calories. Since you’ve been so dedicated, your peaked metabolism should already be working overtime to burn up that meal, a perfect scenario for fat-loss.

Avoid frustration when evaluating your fat loss progress. If you monitor your results daily (some people have even told me they monitor multiple times a day), or weekly, you’re fated to become frustrated. Don’t worry about the small battles. Gauge your results over the course of a month, and take pride in even the smallest of fat-loss victories. You’ll have a more accurate view of your progress, and you’ll see that while you were losing a small battle or two, you’re well on your way to winning the war and achieving your goals.
