October's birthstone is the Opal. Its name comes from the Latin word "opalus," meaning precious jewel. One legendary explanation for this gemstone's origin is that it fell from heaven in a flash of lightning and that’s why it has its reflective characteristics.
Most of the world's Opals are found in Southern Australia. Other sources of this gemstone are Brazil, Mexico, Czechoslovakia and Nevada.

Ancient monarchs believed that this stone had protective powers. They were set into crowns and necklaces to ward off evil and negativity. These gemstones were also used for their healing properties to ward off nightmares. Opals are also used to attract positive energy and interaction with people, power, sexuality, receptiveness, and aids in visualization. They also focus “light and love” to the world.
Some people use Opals as an alternative to the diamond engagement ring. A gift of Opal is symbolic of faithfulness and confidence.

ARIES - March 20 – April 18
Home life is the theme for this month. Positive changes will help you get to your goals and dreams. Emotional issues seem to be more restrictive or limiting and you may feel overwhelmed with choices you have to make. Take your time in making a decision and when you finally do, do not change your mind. Your vacillation will keep you making the same mistakes over and over again. There is so much wonderful energy around you to do and have anything you want now, so be ready to make a change, take an appropriate risk and be happy again. If things are too overwhelming, take a breath, meditate, try a relaxing walk around your neighborhood, talk to a friend about it, or pray. There are so many amazing opportunities ahead of you to become the person you want to be and have the things you feel you need in life – so go for them. If others try to make you feel negative about any of your decisions, perhaps it’s time to let them go.
TAURUS - April 19 – May 19
What a great time to start that diet or exercise program, if that is your wish. You are trying your best to shape up, look good and get out there to impress everyone. The only one you need to impress is yourself. Make sure you have some quiet time for you since it looks like you are very busy, too scattered and doing too much for others. Do you have some unfinished projects that your attention? Maybe others can do some things for themselves for a change (what a concept) and you can handle your own chores, goals, dreams and objectives. If this is a time for a healthcare checkup or annual physical, be sure to keep that appointment. You may be run down and exhausted so you want to make sure that you health is at its best with all of your obligations.
GEMINI - May 20 – June 19
Partnerships (business and personal) are very lucky now. If you want to start a business with a friend or colleague, what are you waiting for? Now is the time. If you are looking for a significant other, get yourself out there so the energy and opportunities can come your way. No one is coming to your door; you have to get dressed, go out and meet people. Lectures and seminars in your area of interest is always a good thing to do. Adult education courses are also a fine option. At the very least, you can go on personals sites and see what is out there for you. If in a relationship, this can be the time where you feel unsatisfied on many levels and are looking for a change. Be sure this is what you want because once you head in that direction, it will be very hard to come back to what you had.
CANCER - June 20 – July 21
Financial review is a good thing. See what you have and how you want to spend your money. It’s a great time to re-organize and finalize many issues relating to your financial goals, security and stability. Be open to spending on what you need. Emotionally, you feel drained and exhausted, overtired and fatigued, so it is up to you to do whatever you need to do to make yourself feel happier and healthier. Be sure to eat properly and take time to eat your meals. You don’t need to be one of those harried people who eat their meals in the car. That just isn’t a healthy way to eat and digest your food. Eating in the car causes more accidents than people using their cell phones! Surround yourself with those you love and talk about things that may be on your family’s mind. It is important to find out what issues need to be resolved, but first you have to know about them.
LEO - July 22 – August 21
This is an outstanding time to travel and/or continue your education. Many times traveling to foreign countries is an education in itself. There are so many fantastic opportunities for you if you are bold enough to take them. Be sure they are appropriate to your dreams and future goals; otherwise you will be wasting your time. So much good luck is around you now that you can just about do anything with positive results, but what are you going to spend this good luck on? If you need to go back to school, get a new job, a new relationship, start a new business, move or just finish up home and personal projects – start the energy rolling in those directions now!. Positive energy is with you and although you may be cautious about some of the things you must finalize, handle them while the luck is with you.

This is the time to make very important decisions about your current job and your future career. New opportunities in your career will help you achieve many goals and dreams you had on the back burner. Are you interested in starting your own home based business perhaps? So many changes are coming into your life that it would be a good idea to make the changes go in the direction you wish. Don’t let life (or anyone) push you into any direction; take a stand, make a plan and follow it so you can have everything that you feel would be an important addition to your life. Good luck and energy follows you around, so it would be a shame to lose out on the positive opportunities it will bring. Be strong, stop second guessing yourself and move in the direction that you feel the strongest.
