You Have A 100 Percent Chance To Get Hurt

We are a society always in search for a quick fix and the next best thing. I don't know what industry is guiltier of marketing to these emotions than the weight loss industry.

We are a society always in search for a quick fix and the next best thing.  I don’t know what industry is guiltier of marketing to these emotions than the weight loss industry.  How many diet pills, fitness magazines, ab machines, new pieces of equipment, diet books, and workout styles are out there?  When people are searching to lose 10 pounds in a week while doing it economically, not only do they engage in behaviors, products, and workouts that might not work, they can put themselves at risk to injury as well.

Too often do people put their trust in trainers, what they see on tv, and read in the latest magazine.  Sometimes the information is right on, other times it couldn’t be further from the truth.  The dangerous part about this is only someone with true experience knows the difference.  I’ve logged over 11,000 hours of training appointments working with athletes of every age and adults of every age over the past 4 years and I’ve spent thousands of other countless hours doing research and continuing education on the subjects of performance, weight loss, and overall health. I can evaluate and filter what I read with an expert eye and unfortunately not many can say the same, including other trainers.

The fitness industry becomes incredibly dangerous when people seeking results are turning to products and workout styles that are being implemented and sold by people who don’t have this sort of experience.    It’s like the blind leading the blind.  When you have the blind leading the blind, everyone gets hurt.  Trainer and client.

This is applicable to every workout scheme.  A bad pilates instructor will hurt you, a bad personal trainer will hurt you, a bad crossfit trainer will hurt you, a bad bootcamp will hurt you, a bad aerobics instructor will hurt you, a bad zumba teacher will hurt you, not knowing how to do Insanity the right way will hurt you.  It doesn’t matter what you engage in, if the instructor is bad and you're not educated, you will get hurt.  If you push yourself beyond your limits, you will get hurt.  If you’re not familiar with basic movement patterns and don’t know the 100% way to correctly perform an exercise, you will get hurt.

You need to do some research on your own.  It’s your body and I would never entirely trust what any trainer is saying or putting you through.   Take control and start doing your own research, ask a lot of questions pay attention to the names of exercises the instructor is teaching you and then go to youtube to see if what the instructor shows you looks like what you see in those videos.  Then you can begin to evaluate whether what you’re doing is safe and right for your level of fitness or if your trainer is just putting you through what is popular at the moment.  Or, even worse, what is just hard to do.
