Kinnelon Named No. 20 Public High School in New Jersey

New Jersey Monthly's bi-annual rankings give high school upper tier designation.

Once again, Kinnelon High School is among the best in the state.

New Jersey Monthly Magazine has released its bi-annual rankings of public high schools in the Garden State, and Kinnelon rounded out the top tier by coming in at number 20.

The school actually slipped from the 2012 rankings, where KHS came it number 5 overall. But the 2014 rankings are above those from 2010, when Kinnelon was ranked number 21 overall.

This year’s list has Kinnelon joined by plenty of its Morris County neighbors, which had five schools in the upper tier. Chatham High School topped the entire list and was named best in the state. That was followed by Mendham High School, which came in fourth. Mendham’s sister-school, West Morris Central, grabbed the number 11 ranking, followed by Mountain Lakes at number 19.

The magazine’s rankings incorporate factors into its methodology from the 2012-13 school year, including SAT and HSPA scores, AP and IB tests, and graduation rates. New to the rankings this year are the IB tests scores and Student Outcomes, or the percentage of that school’s graduates who are enrolled in a two- or four-year college at least 16 months after high school.
