Walking into a big time political office for the first time had me shaking in my boots. Filled with worries and stressed about making the right impression I entered the office in my J.Crew ensemble with my head held high. To my surprise, the atmosphere was nothing like I had expected; instead of being a stuffy, bustling political office I entered a relaxed, warm environment perfect for my first taste of the political world.
Last Wednesday marked my first day working as an intern for one of New York City’s Borough President Offices. Now it is day 4 on the job and as a 17 year old rising senior in high school each day is filled with new learning experiences and excitement. I have already begun networking and developing projects based on women’s issues. This summer will most definitely be one filled with new experiences and work connections in the political arena.
When I started this blog a year ago, the main focus was and still remains a youthful perspective on politics. But now we shall all see what happens when a member of today’s youth not only acts as a spectator to political battles and goings-on but instead throws herself in the middle of the action. Each week or so I will update the blog and express what new things I have seen in this world of politics and I hope it inspires other teens to get involved or find their political voice.
