Cedar Grove Church Struck by Lightning (Photos)

No injuries in Thursday night strike at Pompton Avenue Catholic church.

St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Cedar Grove took a direct hit from a  lightning bolt during Thursday night's storm, which ripped chunks of brick from a chimney and sent rooftop tile flying. Even days after the strike, an area of the church is cordoned off with yellow police tape. A church employee said no one was injured in the strike, and that services resumed on Sunday as scheduled.

It was not immediately known what time the strike occurred, but police and fire officials said Monday there were no emergency calls as a result of the strike, and neither the police or fire department responded to the scene.

Church officials were not immediately available for comment.
