Cedar Grove Driver Revived After Crash At Busy Intersection
Local police, fire and EMS squads worked in harmony to create a safety net that saved the life of a Cedar Grove motorist, authorities say.

CEDAR GROVE, NJ — A motorist is expected to recover thanks to quick work from Cedar Grove emergency responders, who successfully resuscitated him after a crash at a busy intersection, authorities say.
According to the Cedar Grove Police Department, the crash took place around 4:46 p.m. on Tuesday at the intersection of Pompton Avenue and Myrtle Avenue.
Cedar Grove Police Lt. John Kennedy, Officer John Smigelsky and Officer Joseph Ligas arrived on the scene to find that one of the vehicles had careened off the road and onto a nearby lawn. A local businessman pulled the victim from his car; he wasn’t breathing and was in cardiac arrest prior to their arrival, authorities said.

The officers immediately began CPR and defibrillation efforts, working to resuscitate the man until Cedar Grove Ambulance and Rescue Squad and Cedar Grove Fire Department personnel arrived to take over.

EMS responders rushed the man to Mountainside Hospital; he regained a pulse and started breathing on the way to the medical center, authorities stated.
Authorities reported that the man is “lucid and alert” as of Wednesday and is expected to recover.
“The cause of the crash is under investigation, however it’s suspected that the victim experienced a medical episode prior to the crash,” Cedar Grove police stated Wednesday.
No other injuries were reported, police said.
