Police Activity March 21-27.

On Monday, March 21, police charged a Totowa woman with Theft by Deception, Credit Card Theft, and Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card. The charges against the 29 year-old defendant, Arifa Nabby, followed a detective bureau investigation into a Jan. 24 report from a Township woman that her credit card had been used without her knowledge to make purchases totaling $1,787.50. The investigation revealed that Nabby, who is known to the victim, had stolen the card and made the purchases. The defendant, who was served with the charges at the Passaic County Jail where she is being held on unrelated charges, is due to be arraigned in Superior Court in Newark on March 24. Det. Andrew McPhail was the investigating detective.

On Tuesday, March 22 at 1:31 p.m., police responded to a Fairview Avenue demolition site on a report that an intoxicated person was operating a piece of heavy machinery. Upon arrival, the investigating officer, Ptl. Scott Scherer, located and observed the involved vehicle, a Caterpillar front-end loader being operated.  As the officer approached and began to interview the vehicle operator, he detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on the man’s breath, along with other signs of impairment. Following a series of standardized field sobriety tests, the officer arrested the 35 year-old vehicle operator, Adam Paszczyk of Kearny, on a charge of driving while intoxicated. The defendant was processed on the charge at police headquarters and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.

On Tuesday, March 22,  a Township woman turned in currency that she found near the entrance to the Foodtown Supermarket on Pompton Avenue. The found money was entered into evidence pending the location of its owner.

On Tuesday, March 22 at 10:14 p.m., Ptl. Jose Rodriguez initiated a motor vehicle stop for an observed violation. A subsequent check of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (NJMVC) computer revealed that the operator’s driving privileges were under suspension. The 23 year-old operator, Sherley Fadael of Bloomfield, was arrested on the charge, processed at police headquarters and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.

On Saturday, March 26 at 3:52 a.m., Ptl.. Dominick Buscio initiated a motor vehicle stop after observing a speeding vehicle being operated in an erratic manner. A subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of the vehicle operator, Jeffrey Santana, 27, of North Bergen, on charges of driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest and obstruction of the administration of the law. The defendant was processed on all charges at police headquarters and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.

On Sunday, March 27th. at 3:57 a.m., police charged an Edison woman with operating a motor vehicle that was bearing a suspended NJ registration. The 25 year-old defendant, Heather R. Robitaille, was cited for the violation and released pending a Municipal Court appearance. The defendant’s vehicle, a 2000 Dodge, was impounded for the suspended registration. Ptl. Jose Rodriguez was the investigating officer.

On Sunday, March 27, a Township woman reported that her iPhone was stolen while she was at a Grove Avenue restaurant. The victim reported that she had left the phone on a table and when she returned to retrieve it, it was gone. The case for the phone was subsequently found broken in the parking lot. The stolen iPhone, valued at $650, was entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) computer as a stolen article.
