On Tuesday, May 3, police arrested 18 year-old Nicholas L. Vizzone, of Roseland, on charges of eluding police, possession of a weapon (baseball bat) and with making a false police report. The incidents leading to Vizzone’s arrest initiated at 9:35 p.m. when police were called to a Ring Place residence on a report of an assault in progress. Police subsequently determined that a Ring Place homeowner had been assaulted by Vizzone, who was identified as the boyfriend of the resident’s daughter. The resident reported that the defendant had left the scene just prior to police arrival in his vehicle, a 2010 Honda Civic. Information was also received that Vizzone was in possession of a baseball bat and had threatened the victim with it. While officers were checking the surrounding area for Vizzone, he was observed on a nearby street operating his vehicle. When officers attempted to stop the car, Vizzone refused to stop and led officers into Little Falls onto Rt. 46 and then Rt. 3 into Clifton. Due to the defendant’s increasingly aggressive operation of the vehicle, officers discontinued attempts to stop him. At approximately 11:25 p.m., Vizzone returned to the Ring Place address claiming that his vehicle had been stolen from the front of the Ring Place residence earlier in the evening. At that point Vizzone was arrested and transported to police headquarters for processing. The defendant was subsequently released on bail pending arraignment in Superior Court on May 12, 2011. Ptl. Dominick Buscio, Ptl. Jose Rodriguez and Ptl. Robert Hectus were the investigating officers.
