
On Tuesday, May 24 at 12:52 a.m., Ptl. Jason Wolfstirn initiated a motor vehicle stop for an observed violation. A subsequent check of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (NJMVC) computer revealed that the operator’s driving privileges were under suspension. The 22 year-old operator, Mark L. Barsoum of Cedar Grove, was arrested on the charge and transported to headquarters for processing. A check of the Automated Traffic System (ATS) revealed that Barsoum was wanted on outstanding warrants issued by the Bridgewater and Little Egg Harbor Courts. The defendant was processed on all charges and released pending court appearances in the involved courts.

On Tuesday, May 24 at 9:25 p.m., police responded to the area of Stevens Avenue and George Street on a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a deer. A subsequent investigation revealed that the involved vehicle had been traveling west on Stevens when a deer ran into the roadway resulting in a collision. The vehicle, a 2002 Dodge, sustained reportable property damage and the deer ran off following the crash. Due to the large deer population in the area, motorists are urged to use caution when operating near wooded areas, especially between dusk and dawn.

On Thursday, May 26 at 9:58 p.m., police arrested a Township man after he was found to under the influence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) and in possession of CDS marijuana (under 50g). The 26 year-old defendant, Daniel S. Newman, was processed on the charges at police headquarters and released pending a Municipal Court appearance. Ptl. Dominick Buscio was the arresting officer.

On Thursday, May 26 at 11:48 p.m., Ptl. Jose Rodriguez initiated a motor vehicle stop for an observed violation. A subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of the vehicle operator after it was determined that he was operating the vehicle while his NJ driving privileges were under suspension, in addition to being wanted on an outstanding civil contempt warrant issued by the Essex County Sheriff’s Department. The defendant was processed on all charges at police headquarters and turned over to the Sheriff’s Department at the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark on their warrant.

On Friday, May 27 at 2:37 a.m., Ptl. Dominick Buscio initiated a motor vehicle stop after observing a vehicle being operated in an erratic manner. As the officer secured the operator’s credentials, he detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on the man’s breath, along with other signs of impairment. Following a series of standardized field sobriety tests, the officer arrested the 29 year-old operator, Kamran Sleemi of Cedar Grove, on a charge of driving while intoxicated. The defendant was processed on the charge at police headquarters and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.

On Friday, May 27 at 9:54 p.m., Ptl. Joseph Russomanno stopped to investigate a suspicious vehicle parked on the Mills Reservation property after the posted curfew. A subsequent investigation resulted in the detention of a 17 year-old Montclair juvenile after he was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia (marijuana pipe and marijuana grinder), in addition to being in the reservation after curfew. Two additional juveniles, ages 16 and 17, were also taken into protective custody for the curfew violation. All three juveniles were processed at police headquarters and turned over to their guardians. The matter has been referred to the Juvenile Officer for review and disposition.

On Sunday, May 29 at 2:27 a.m., Ptl. Jason Rivers initiated a motor vehicle stop for observed violations. A subsequent check of the NJMVC computer revealed that the operator’s driving privileges were under suspension. The 24 year-old operator, Michael A. Manley of Verona, was arrested on the charge, processed at police headquarters and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.

On Monday, May 30 at 12:50 a.m., Ptl. Jason Rivers and Ptl. Jason Wolfstirn initiated a motor vehicle stop for an observed violation. A subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of the two vehicle occupants after officers discovered CDS marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. The vehicle operator, Brandon A. McKenzie-Nozari, 19, of Montclair, was charged possession of marijuana (under 50g) and possession in a motor vehicle. The vehicle passenger, Julian C. Turner, 19, of Montclair, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia (glass pipe). The defendants were processed at police headquarters and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.
