Cedar Grove Police Blotter

On Tuesday, May 31, police responded to the Cedar Grove Garden Center on Pompton Avenue on a report of burglary.  A subsequent investigation revealed that some unknown person(s) had forcibly entered the building sometime during the overnight hours.  Upon entry, the actor(s) forced open a filing cabinet and removed an undetermined amount of cash.  The detective bureau processed the scene for physical evidence and is now conducting a follow-up investigation.

On Tuesday, May 31 at 11:57 p.m., Ptl. Dominick Buscio initiated a motor vehicle stop for an observed violation.  As the officer secured the operator’s credentials, he detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle and the clothing of the two occupants.  A subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of the two subjects after they were found to be in possession of the Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) marijuana (under 50g), a small amount of cocaine, and drug paraphernalia.  The defendants, Rebecca Leonardo, 20, and Andrew D. Greco, 20, both of Little Falls, were additionally charged with being under the influence of a CDS.  Both defendants were processed at police headquarters and released pending Superior Court Arraignment in Newark on June 8, 2011.

On Wednesday, June 1 at 9:10 p.m., Ptl. Jason Wolfstirn initiated a motor vehicle stop after observing a vehicle without headlights on being operated in an erratic manner.  As the officer secured the operator’s credentials, he detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on the man’s breath, along with other signs of impairment.  Following a series of standardized field sobriety tests, the officer arrested the 22 year-old operator, Dwayne K. Clement of West Orange, on a charge of driving while intoxicated.  The defendant was processed on the charge at police headquarters and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.

On Thursday, June 2 at 9:58 p.m., Ptl. Jason Rivers initiated a motor vehicle stop for an observed violation.  As the officer secured the operator’s credentials, he detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on the man’s breath, along with other signs of impairment.  A subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of the 41 year-old operator, Scott Caffrey of Verona, on a charge of driving while intoxicated.  The defendant was processed on the charge at police headquarters and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.
