On Wednesday, July 6 at 9:46 p.m., a Millington woman made a report of lost property. The victim reported that she had been at the Pilgrim Diner around noontime that day, at which time she took off and placed several items of jewelry on the table. The victim reported that after her meal, she inadvertently left the jewelry on the table. A short time later she returned to the diner to retrieve the jewelry and discovered that it was gone and no one had turned it in management. The missing items of jewelry were described as two ankle bracelets, two rings and a wrist bracelet. The matter was referred to the detective bureau for follow-up investigation.

On Wednesday, July 6 at 10:12 p.m., police responded to the area of Pompton Avenue and Vincent Road a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a Hit & Run vehicle. A subsequent investigation revealed that one of the involved vehicles, a 2001 Honda, had been traveling south on Pompton when a second vehicle, described as a red Jeep Wrangler, sideswiped the Honda and then left the scene, last seen traveling west on Vincent Road. An area check was conducted for the Hit & Run vehicle with negative results. Any person having additional information on the Jeep Wrangler is asked to contact police at 973-239-4100.

On Thursday, July 7 at 6:51 a.m., police responded to the area of Pompton Avenue & Ridge Road on a report of an injured deer. Upon arrival, officers located the badly injured deer in the roadway. The deer, which had apparently been struck by a motor vehicle that left the scene, was put down by police. Due to the large deer population in the area, motorists are urged to use caution when operating near wooded areas, especially between dusk and dawn.

On Thursday, July 7 at 8:02 p.m., Ptl. Eileen O’Toole initiated a motor vehicle stop for an observed violation. A subsequent check of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (NJMVC) computer revealed that the operator’s driving privileges were under suspension. The 24 year-old operator, Maurice D. Wade of Montclair, was arrested on the charge and transported to headquarters for processing. A check of the Automated Traffic System (ATS) revealed that Wade was also wanted on an outstanding warrant issued by the Wayne Court. The defendant was processed on all charges and released after posting the required bail.

On Thursday, July 7, police recovered a bicycle that was found abandoned on Pompton Avenue. The bicycle, a 26” Schwinn Ranger, is being stored at police headquarters pending the location of its owner.

On Thursday, July 7 at 11:40 p.m., Ptl. Jose Rodriguez initiated a motor vehicle stop after observing a vehicle in the Mills Reservation parking lot after the posted curfew. A subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of the vehicle operator after he was found to be in possession of CDS marijuana (under 50g) and drug paraphernalia (marijuana grinder). The defendant was processed on the charges at police headquarters and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.

On Saturday, July 9 at 12:11 a.m., Ptl. Jason Rivers initiated a motor vehicle stop for an observed violation. A subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of the vehicle operator after he was found to be wanted on an outstanding traffic warrant issued by the Jersey City Court. The 28 year-old defendant, Damion O. Abrahams of Maplewood, was processed on the charge and released after posting the required bail.

On Saturday, July 9 at 7:15 a.m., police responded to a Devonshire Road address on a report of a motor vehicle theft. The victim reported that sometime during the overnight hours, some unknown person had stolen a 2008 BMW from his driveway. The victim reported that the unknown actor(s) had also entered a second vehicle parked in the driveway and removed a wallet containing the victim’s identification, credit cards and cash. The stolen BMW was entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Stolen Vehicle File. Residents are advised to secure their keys and lock their vehicles when unattended. In addition, valuables should be secured and alarms should set on any vehicle equipped with an alarm system.

On Saturday, July 9 at 2:15 p.m., a Donato Drive resident reported an incident of theft. The victim reported that she had been having a garage sale earlier in the day and some unknown person(s) had stolen a digital camera from a table in her garage. The stolen camera was described as a Canon brand valued at $180.00.
