On Saturday, July 30th. at 2:20 a.m., Ptl. Dominick Buscio initiated a motor vehicle stop after observing a vehicle being operated in an erratic manner. A subsequent check of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (NJMVC) computer revealed that the operator’s driving privileges were under suspension. The 48 year-old operator, Guyto Chery of New York, NY, was arrested on the charge, processed at police headquarters and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.

On Sunday, July 31st. at 8:15 p.m., police arrested a Wayne man on charges that he was operating an unregistered, uninsured motorcycle bearing a fictitious license plate while his NJ driving privileges were both expired and under suspension. The 45 year-old defendant, John D. Lampiris 2nd., was also found to be wanted on outstanding traffic warrants issued by six different jurisdictions. Lampiris was processed on all charges and turned over to the Paramus Police Department on their warrant. Ptl. Dominick Buscio was the arresting officer.

On Tuesday, August 2nd. at 11:19 p.m., police responded to the Grasshopper parking lot on Grove Avenue on a report of a motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival, police determined that one of the involved vehicles had been entering the lot when it struck a parked unoccupied vehicle. While securing the involved operator’s credentials, Ptl. Jason Rivers detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on the woman’s breath, along with other signs of impairment. Following a series of standardized field sobriety tests, the officer arrested the 36 year-old operator, Maria Boguszewicz of Cedar Grove, on a charge of driving while intoxicated. The defendant was processed on the charge at police headquarters and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.

On Friday, August 5th. at 3:44 a.m., police and fire personnel responded to the Foodtown Plaza on Pompton Avenue on a report of a fire alarm. A subsequent investigation revealed a smoke condition and activated sprinklers in the Krauszer’s Food Store. The arriving fire department made entry into the store and discovered that one of the store’s refrigerators was on fire. The fire department subsequently extinguished the fire without further incident. As a result of the fire, the store sustained substantial smoke and water damage and as of this date remains closed until the cleanup can be completed and approved by the Township’s Health Officer. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but is not considered to be suspicious.

On Friday, August 5th. at 10:46 a.m., police responded to the Senior Citizen Building at 100 Cedar Ridge Drive on a request to assist a resident who had fallen and could not get up. Upon making entry into the resident’s apartment, Ptl. Richard Macaluso discovered a heavy smoke condition. The officer was able to assist the 91 year-old resident out of the apartment and into the hallway. It was subsequently determined that the victim, a 91 year-old woman, had been cooking prior to falling and the unattended cooking had created the smoke condition. The fire department responded to the scene and ventilated the smoke from the building and apartment. Damage was limited to the pot that was cooking on the stove. Ptl. Macaluso and the victim both suffered smoke inhalation and were transported to Mountainside Hospital for treatment. The officer was treated and released and the resident was kept overnight for further evaluation.
On Friday, August 5th. at 11:05 p.m., Ptl. Jason Wolfstirn initiated a motor vehicle stop for an observed violation. A subsequent check of the NJMVC computer revealed that the operator’s driving privileges were under suspension. The 30 year-old operator, Michele L. Leonard of Denville, was arrested on the charge, processed at police headquarters and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.
