On Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 7:24 a.m., Ptl. Jose Rodriguez initiated a motor vehicle stop for an observed violation. A subsequent check of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (NJMVC) computer revealed that the operator’s driving privileges were under suspension. The 41 year-old operator, Darry D. Farrier of Corona, NY, was arrested on the charge, processed at police headquarters and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.

A subsequent check of the NJMVC computer revealed that the operator’s driving privileges were under suspension. The 20 year-old operator, Steven Bertucci Jr. of Verona, was arrested on the charge, processed at police headquarters and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.

On Thursday, Dec. 8, police responded to the Cedar Grove High School to investigate a theft that occurred on Wednesday, Dec. 7 Upon arrival, the theft victim, a school staff member, reported that some unknown person(s) had entered her office and removed $65.00 in cash from her wallet. The matter was referred to the detective bureau for follow-up investigation.

On Thursday, Dec. 8 at 12:57 p.m., police arrested a Nutley man on a charge that he was operating a motor vehicle while his NJ driving privileges were under suspension. The 18 year-old defendant, Nicholas L. Vizzone, was processed on the charge at police headquarters and released pending a Municipal Court appearance. Ptl. Jose Rodriguez was the arresting officer.

On Thursday, Dec. 8 at 5:31 p.m., police responded to a Union Street residence on a report of a burglary. A subsequent investigation revealed that some unknown person(s) had forcibly entered the home sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 5:25 p.m. Upon entry, suspects(s) removed a number of items including cash, jewelry and a laptop computer. The detective bureau processed the scene for physical evidence and is conducting a follow-up investigation. Any person observing suspicious activity in the area is asked to contact detectives at 973-239-4100.

On Thursday, Dec. 8 at 9:43 p.m., Ptl. John Smigelsky initiated a motor vehicle stop for an observed violation. A subsequent check of the NJMVC computer revealed that the operators driving privileges were under suspension. The 26 year-old operator, Cherylene A. Streeter of Bloomfield, was arrested on the charge, processed at police headquarters and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.

On Friday, Dec. 9, a Garrett Street resident reported the theft of a laptop computer from her home. The victim reported that the theft occurred on Wednesday, Dec. 7 sometime between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. The value of the stolen laptop was estimated to be $450.

On Saturday, Dec. 10 at 7:01 a.m., police responded to the area of Sherman Avenue & Haller Drive on a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a deer. A subsequent investigation revealed that the involved vehicle had been traveling west on Sherman when a deer ran into the roadway resulting in a collision. The involved vehicle, a 2011 Acura, sustained reportable property damage and the badly injured deer was put down by police. Due to the large deer population in the area, motorists are advised to use caution when operating near wooded areas, especially between dusk and dawn.
