Car accident involving deer, outstanding traffic warrant arrest highlights weekly report.

The following reports were prepared by the Cedar Grove Police Department and do not necessarily indicate a conviction.

On Thursday, Dec. 1 at 7:33 p.m., police investigated a motor vehicle crash involving a deer.  The investigation revealed that the involved vehicle was traveling south on Pompton Avenue in the area of Brunswick Road when a deer ran into the roadway resulting in a collision.  The vehicle, a 2001 Nissan, sustained front end damage and the badly injured deer was put down by police.  Due to the large deer population in the area, motorists are urged to use caution when operating near wooded areas, especially between dusk and dawn.

On Thursday, Dec. 1 at 7:53 p.m., Ptl. Jason Wolfstirn initiated a motor vehicle stop for an observed violation.  A subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of the vehicle operator after it was determined that he was wanted on an outstanding traffic warrant issued by the Cedar Grove Court.  The 29 year-old defendant, Damion O. Abrahams, was processed on the charge at police headquarters and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.

On Thursday, Dec. 1 at 11:54 p.m., Ptl. Jason Wolfstirn initiated a motor vehicle stop after receiving a citizen’s report that the involved vehicle was being operated in an erratic manner.  A subsequent investigation revealed that the vehicle was both uninsured and bearing a suspended NJ registration.  In addition, the operator’s NJ driving privileges were under suspension.  The 84 year-old defendant, Octavies Nowell of Montclair, was cited for the violations and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.  The defendant’s vehicle, a 1996 Buick, was impounded.

On Sunday, Dec. 4 at 7:27 p.m., Ptl. John Smigelsky initiated a motor vehicle stop for an observed violation.  A subsequent check of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (NJMVC) computer revealed that the operator’s driving privileges were under suspension.  The 45 year-old operator, James A. Graham of Jersey City, was arrested on the charge, processed at police headquarters and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.
