On Monday, Sept. 19 at 11:17 a.m., a Bowden Road resident reported that sometime during the overnight hours, some unknown person(s) attempted to forcibly enter his parked motor vehicle. During the attempt the actor(s) damaged the vehicle door handle and key hole. Entry to the vehicle was not gained and the cost to repair the damage was unknown at the time of report.

On Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 6:42 a.m. and on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 5:20 a.m., police responded to motor vehicle crashes involving deer. The Tuesday incident occurred in the area of Pompton & Stevens Avenues, where police responded to on a report of an injured deer and discovered a deer that had been hit by a vehicle that left the scene. Due to severe injuries suffered by the deer, it was necessary for police to destroy the animal. The Wednesday incident occurred on Fairview Avenue near Young Avenue. In that incident, a deer ran into the roadway in front of southbound vehicle resulting in a crash. The vehicle sustained reportable property damage and the deer was killed by the collision. Due to the large deer population in the area, motorists are advised to use caution when operating near wooded areas, especially between dusk and dawn.

On Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 11:14 p.m., Ptl. Jason Wolfstirn initiated a motor vehicle stop for an observed violation. A subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of the vehicle operator after he was found to be wanted on an outstanding traffic warrant issued by the Wayne Court. The 26 year-old defendant, Brian L. Cargill of Pequannock, was processed at police headquarters and released pending appearance in Wayne Municipal Court.

On Friday, Sept. 23 at 5:45 p.m., Ptl. Jose Rodriguez initiated a motor vehicle stop for an observed violation. A subsequent check of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (NJMVC) computer revealed that the operator’s driving privileges were under suspension. The 25 year-old operator, Ivan E. Guzman of Haledon, was arrested on the charge, processed at police headquarters and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.

On Saturday, Sept. 24 at 2:06 a.m., Ptl. Dominick Buscio initiated a motor vehicle stop after observing a vehicle being operated in an erratic manner. While securing the operator’s credentials, the officer noticed that the man was exhibiting signs of impairment. A subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of the 23 year-old operator, Dexter R. Ellis Jr. of Woodland Park, on a charge of driving while under the influence of an intoxicant. The defendant was processed on the charge at police headquarters and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.

On Saturday, Sept. 24 at 8:50 p.m., police responded to a Lopez Road residence on a report of criminal mischief. The victim reported hearing an object strike his home and subsequently discovered that the object thrown was an egg. He also observed three juveniles running from his house into a neighboring home. The victim reported that the egg throwing has been an ongoing problem. Police subsequently located and identified the three involved juveniles, all 15 years old. The guardians of the involved juveniles were notified and the matter was forwarded to the Juvenile Officer for review. Ptl. Eileen O’Toole was the investigating officer.

On Sunday, Sept. 25 at 3:50 a.m., Ptl. John Smigelsky initiated a motor vehicle stop after observing a vehicle being operated in an erratic manner. As the officer secured the operator’s credentials, he detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on the man’s breath, along with other signs of impairment. Following a series of standardized field sobriety tests, the officer arrested the 21 year-old operator, Antomis Nerantzoulis of Parsippany, on a charge of driving while intoxicated. The defendant was processed on the charge at police headquarters and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.

On Sunday, Sept. 25 at 10:37 a.m., Ptl. Jose Rodriguez initiated a motor vehicle stop for an observed violation. A subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of the vehicle operator after he was found to be in possession of a false government document (fraudulent Pennsylvania Drivers License). The 20 year-old defendant, Ryan P. Carlson of Verona, was processed on the charge at police headquarters and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.

On Sunday, Sept. 25 at 3:58 p.m., police arrested a West Orange man on charges that he was operating a motor vehicle bearing fictitious license plates while his NJ driving privileges were under suspension. The 28 year-old defendant, Nachum Y. Klar, was processed on the charges at police headquarters and released pending a Municipal Court appearance. Ptl. Jose Rodriguez was the arresting officer.

On Monday, Sept. 26 at 12:43 a.m., Ptl. John Smigelsky initiated a motor vehicle stop for an observed speeding violation. A subsequent check of the NJMVC computer revealed that the operator’s driving privileges were under suspension. The 25 year-old operator, Michael A. Manley of Verona, was arrested on the charge, processed at police headquarters and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.
