Our Lady of the Lake Celebrating Blue Ribbon Recognition

Our Lake of the Lake to Celebrate Blue Ribbon School Designation

On Sunday, January 29, 2012, the parish community of Our Lady of the Lake Church in Verona, NJ will formally celebrate the designation of Our Lady of the Lake School as a 2011 National Blue Ribbon School.  The Blue Ribbon Award Ceremony will take place as part of a special Family Mass to be held at 12:00 Noon on January 29.  Rev. Michael A. Hanly, Pastor of Our Lady of the Lake Parish, will be the celebrant of the Mass, and Sister Mary Agnes Sullivan, Principal of Our Lady of the Lake School, will join Fr. Hanly in presiding at the award ceremony.  State and local elected officials, leaders of the Archdiocese of Newark, other dignataries and the community at large have been invited to be part of the award ceremony.  All are welcome to attend!

Receiving designation as a National Blue Ribbon School is a significant achievement for Our Lady of the Lake School.  Nationwide, the U.S. Department of Education recognized only 305 schools as National Blue Ribbon Schools this year, and of those only 49 were private or parochial schools.  Our Lady of the Lake School was one of only fourteen schools in New Jersey and one of only two schools in Essex County to be so honored.

Our Lady of the Lake School was selected as a National Blue Ribbon School because, among other critical factors, Our Lady of the Lake students earned top scores in the nation in reading and mathematics on nationally recognized standardized exams.  The faculty, staff and parents at Our Lady of the Lake School are working together to prepare their students and children for a lifetime of learning, “nurtur(ing) all students to reach their full potential,” as the school’s mission statement says.  The whole school community takes pride in this achievement.

Our Lady of the Lake School, located on Lakeside Avenue in Verona, NJ, just across from Verona Lake Park, provides a quality Catholic education open to all families.  It is the school with the big Blue Ribbon around it!  The school draws families from all over suburban Essex County and offers Pre-K3, Pre-K4, full-day Kindergarten and Grades 1 through 8.  Interested parents and families can visit the school website at www.myoll.org or call 973-239-1160.
