Greater Victory

Often great victories are preceded by great trials.

President Dwight Eisenhower once said “There are no victories at discount prices.” At first glance his quote may sound like empty motivational rhetoric, but his real life story gives substance to his words. Eisenhower was President of the United States during trying times in our nation from 1953 through 1961. As a general he was the Supreme Commander of Allied forces in Europe, and he supervised the successful invasion of France and Germany in the 1940’s. To name a few significant accomplishments of his presidency, he oversaw the cease-fire of the Korean War, kept pressure on the Soviet Union during the Cold War, launched the Space Race, enlarged Social Security, and began the Interstate Highway System. His statement about the cost of victory suddenly has far more substance when we realize the source of the quote.

Even during our trying times God is preparing us for a great victory. Our experiences continually shape us and prepare us for what is ahead. Today’s battle is training for tomorrow’s victory. One closed door leads us to another open door. Be encouraged today that God can use these trying times to make you an encouragement to others, lead you to new opportunities, and strengthen your faith.

Sometimes we don’t know the why, or the when, or the how God is working in our situation, but remember that great victories are often preceded by great trials.
