Letter: Cedar Grove Councilman Weighs in on Recent Burglaries

To the Editor:

Over the last few weeks, many residents have contacted me regarding the recent home burglaries in our town.

Cedar Grove is not immune to what other communities throughout the region are dealing with. The large number of unemployed people and the financial crisis in our country has driven people to commit crimes. Fortunately, we have a great police department who is vigilant about patrolling and keeping our residents safe.

As Chief Richard Vanderstreet said in a recent newspaper interview regarding the home invasions, the residents can play a big part by communicating to the police department what they witness or hear in their neighborhoods.

If every resident takes a proactive role and reports strange behavior or vehicles that are unfamiliar to them, that vigilance will pay off in curtailing and hopefully stopping these home invasions.

It’s important that everyone locks their doors, enables their home alarms, and leaves outside lights on.  Don’t hesitate to contact the police department for any emergency by dialing 911.

Most recently, residents in our community observed strange behavior and notified the police department immediately. As a result, arrests were made.

By coming together as a community, we will assist our police department in stopping these crimes.
