Cedar Grove Cops Catch Pipe Stealer
Orange man caught stealing metal pipes by Cedar Grove police investigating suspicious vehicle on Skytop Road.
Cedar Grove police arrested 36-year-old Jeffrey S. Devoe of Orange on June 24 at 3:40 a.m. after stopping to investigate a car parked on Skytop Road near the old Essex County Hospital Center.
In the past year, two separate incidents have led to suspects being arrested for stealing copper and other metals at the hospital center.
While investigating this incident, police heard the sound of metal pipes falling in one of the buildings and saw Devoe try to climb out a window to escape.
He was arrested and turned over to the Essex County Sheriff’s Department, where he was charged with burglary, trespassing and possession of burglary tools.
A second suspect fled from the scene and has not been identified.
